Company History

Hume & Iser had it's origin in the purchase by Mr. W. Humme of the City Steam Saw Mills founded by Mr. Charleston in the early 1850's as The Saginaw Saw Mills. On the death of Mr. Humme in 1889, his brother-in-law, Henry Iser was became the manager.

The two sons, William and Leslie took over the reins of the business which continued to prosper. In the years to come William's sons, Les Jnr, Tom and Harry, carried on the Iser tradition together with a cousin, Ian Sides. All three brothers held executive positions until their retirements. The 4th and 5th generations are represented by Harry's son Stephen and grandson James.

Over the years Hume & Iser continued to grow, expanding into Bricks, Tiles, Plaster, Garden, Computerisation and in 1988 the exciting "new look" complex of the Hume & Iser organisation was completed. It was the blue print for modern product marketing. All sections of the buildings and surrounds were utilised for trading efficiency with top priority given to customer service. Modern technology played a important role in the development of the company.

Hume & Iser continues to make history in Bendigo and intends to for many generations to come.
